Christmas Day
A day like any other?
Do those boys really need to catch fish today?
The Pengelly brothers would never miss the opportunity a kind sea brings.
They would have us believe that they canât afford to miss a day, but the whole village knows that it is simply that they love the thrill of the chase.
Their optimism never waivers, it really is a pleasure to see them go by.
If the tide is right and the weather calm they always put some fish my way.
Their experience and courage knows no bounds but it is difficult not to feel wary, they cannot be told, for the sea runs through their veins, no man though is guaranteed a safe passage.
I stay here night after night, I have to do my duty, I have to keep my light working come what may, I have to do my best to bring one and all, safely home from the sea.
The weather can so suddenly change, we have all learnt not to fight it, for mother nature will always win in the end. ââââââââ What deep joy I felt last night though, I feared that Al would let me down.
The change was coming, it was foolhardy to take to sea.
Laden with goodies, he rapped on the door, his grin from ear to ear.
The skies darkened, the wind whipped up, he pulled up a chair and removed his boots.
My dear friend had no intention of leaving me tonight.
What a relief, a wonderful surprise, company at last.
We awake to a clean crisp clear morning.
A wry smile crosses Alâs faceâanother day wonât hurtâ
A feast to behold , precious friends.
